Got Summer Sun Damage? We Have Solutions
Summer sun feels great on your skin, but unfortunately, it can also cause premature aging, along with fine lines and uneven texture. The good news is we offer treatments that can help, including state-of-the-art laser and light therapies.

Basking in the warm sun is one of the pleasures of summer, especially after a cold, New York winter. While the warm rays may feel great on your skin, they can do a lot of damage — and when fall rolls around, your skin can start to show it.

At Micari Aesthetics, our team helps women and men in Belmore, New York, ward off sun damage and support healthy skin with broadband light (BBL) therapy and Moxi® laser treatment, two light-based therapies that help eliminate sun damage and support skin rejuvenation. Here’s how these two therapies can refresh and repair your sun-damaged skin.

How sun damages our skin

Most people know the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays can cause skin cancer, but far fewer know these rays can also prematurely age your skin.

Research shows that about 90% of the visible signs of facial aging — lines, wrinkles, age spots, and skin laxity, for example — are caused by sun-induced changes to your skin structure, a process called photoaging. When UV rays are absorbed by your skin, they alter your skin’s DNA and break down collagen fibers, causing skin to reproduce abnormally while undermining skin’s strong support network that helps prevent wrinkles and sagging.

As a result, your skin begins to lose its natural support, paving the way for wrinkles, lines, and a loss of firmness. Alterations in skin production leave your skin looking dull and feeling rougher over time. Plus, sun exposure can damage tiny blood vessels, leading to permanent skin redness.

BBL and Moxi to the rescue

BBL and Moxi laser treatment are two noninvasive therapies for sun-damaged skin, helping repair and rejuvenate skin without surgery, incisions, or anesthesia.

Broadband light therapy

BBL is a type of pulsed light therapy that uses broadband wavelengths of light energy to penetrate deeper layers of skin, specifically the layers where healthy collagen is produced. Treating these layers helps promote the production of new, healthy collagen while eliminating damaged cells that cause signs of aging.

In fact, a study by researchers at Stanford University School of Medicine found that BBL therapy altered gene expression of aging and sun-damaged skin, causing skin to behave more like youthful skin. Although it’s often referred to as a laser treatment, broadband light therapy doesn’t use laser energy, and it also doesn’t cause skin sloughing and peeling following treatment.

Moxi laser treatment

Moxi is a nonablative laser treatment, which means it doesn’t remove skin during treatment. It also uses fractional technology, treating tiny areas of skin while leaving other areas untouched for faster healing and less discomfort.

The laser works by creating a series of tiny microinjuries in your skin, promoting natural healing responses that improve your skin’s texture and tone. These injuries spur collagen development deep inside your skin, helping your complexion look and feel firmer and more resilient over time.

Both BBL and Moxi laser treatments can treat multiple concerns, including fine lines, skin tone irregularities, and redness, and both require very little downtime, if any. After treatment, it’s common to experience some redness similar to a sunburn, and you’ll need to protect your skin from the sun while it heals.
